Here’s what happened in my miniature world last month.

A realistic miniature strawberry, next to a real strawberry

I sculpted some miniature strawberries from polymer clay. I like how they turned out visually, but not so happy about how brittle the tiny green leaves are. I wonder if I under-baked the clay, or if Premo is not the right clay for such delicate details. I am now investigating the durability and flexibility of other polymer clays. I also plan on trying paper for the leaves. Paper should definitely look more realistic, if I could somehow manage to cut out such teeny tiny pieces in the right shape.

After making fresh strawberries, the natural next step was… dipping them in chocolate! The funny thing about making miniatures is that sometimes the process needs to be quite different than in reality. “Wrapping” in chocolate would describe the process better. And in order to wrap them without destroying the shape, I had to bake the strawberries first. I also tried glazing the chocolate, but only to realize matte looks much more realistic. Yummm… :)

I baked a cake to celebrate my over 100 Facebook page likes, and some chocolates.

Also made a miniature copy of our dining table. First time working with wood. It was fun, although I don’t have proper tools. Here’s more about how I made the table.

This is all for now.

I am now in the mood for flowers. I am also going to try working with paper! I was still at school, when I last worked with paper, but I just stocked up on fresh glue ;).
